A lot of people have problems with stomach bloating. This can be a really uncomfortable and painful condition. Usually, bloating is also followed by flatulence, burping or abdominal rumbling. The condition is most of the time a result of overeating, swallowing excess air, drinking too many carbonated beverages, eating some types of vegetables, or lactose intolerance. Nevertheless, in many cases, it might be a sign of a much graver condition.

Warning Signs of a Bloated Stomach


This is the accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity. So, if there is abdominal bloating, it means that you have issues with your liver.

Weight Loss

If you are experiencing weight loss without any diets then this might mean you have cancer. The signs are more obvious also when there is abdominal bloating as well.

Liver Disease

Bloating can be a result of liver disease as well, or cirrhosis. Also, the bloating sometimes can be accompanied by yellowing of the skin and eyes.


If you have bloating and fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, it usually points to infections.

Vaginal Bleeding/Blood in the Stool

Bloating can be accompanied by these symptoms as well. In these cases, they usually point to hemorrhoids or fibroids.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

This disease happens when the female reproductive organs, like the uterine lining or ovaries, become infected.  This results in bloating and a vaginal discharge.


This one is an inflammation of the diverticulum, mainly in the colon. It causes bloating,  pain and fever.

Bloating is usually a sign of some cancer, like stomach, urinary, pancreatitis, ovarian and colon cancer.

How to Fight Bloating

  • Do not smoke
  • Try to up the intake of foods that are rich in fiber
  • Drink a lot of water
  • Do not consume artificial sugars and sugar alcohols
  • Limit the consumption of carbonated beverages and chewing gum
  • Avoid beans and vegetables like broccoli and Brussels sprouts and dried foods as well. They cause bloating
  • Chew slowly and consume less when you eat
