How To Remove Earwax At Home Safely

Ear wax often called as cerumen in medical terms produced in our ear canals. It is usually protect our ears from dust, air, hair and other particles from the ear canal and keeps it healthy. But sometimes building up ear wax would be uncomfortable, unsightly and even sometimes it affects the ability of hearing.

Blocking of ear wax can also happen by using a cotton swab that pushes the ear wax further in to the ear canal. Even though there are over the counter of products to clear the ear wax and to clean the outer ear canal, here are the simple ways to remove earwax by sitting in our homes.

Home Remedies To Remove Earwax At Home:

There are several ways to remove earwax safely by sitting at your home.

#1 Hydrogen Peroxide:

Even though hydrogen peroxide is considered as a chemical name, but it is completely natural that helps in removing ear wax easily.

What You Need To Do:

  • All you need to do is mix equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water.
  • Now, tilt your head as your ear facing towards ceiling and using a cotton ball squeeze some of this solution in blocked ear.
  • Stay in that position for few minutes and again come back to the starting position and clean the excess solution from your ear.

#2 Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids that are effective in removing ear wax without worries. Even the microbes in coconut oil lowers the risk of infection by killing harmful bacteria associated with buildup of wax.

What You Need To Do:

  • Warm up little amount of coconut oil and pour few drops in the affected ear by using a dropper.
  • Let it remain for 10 minutes and tilt your head to remove the melted ear wax from your ear.

#3 Baby Oil:

Baby oil is often considered as a mineral oil with mild soothing fragrance. It acts as an effective moisturizer and lubricant and softens wax in the ear in no time to remove it easily.

What You Need To Do:

  • Put few drops of baby oil in the blocked ear by using a dropper and try to close the other ear with cotton ball.
  • Remove the cotton ball after sometime.

#4 Baking Soda:

Baking soda is considered as natural therapy for easy removal of ear wax. The anti septic properties in baking soda soften the ear wax and prevent further buildup.

What You Need To Do:

  • Mix baking soda with some water and pour few drops of this solution in the blocked ear.
  • Let it remain for few minutes and then tilt your head to remove the melted ear wax from your ear.
  • Clean thoroughly using a soft and smooth cloth.

#5 Warm Water:

Warm water helps in softening the ear wax and removes dust and oils and even thoroughly cleans the ear.

What You Need To DO:

  • You just need to flush the ear with lukewarm water to remove the excess buildup of ear wax. 

#6 White Vinegar And Alcohol:

A mixture of vinegar and rubbing alcohol is one of the effective natural remedy to remove ear wax from the ear. Alcohol serves as drying agent and evaporates when the temperatures are low. The astringent properties in vinegar kill the bacteria that cause infections in the ear due to ear wax.

What You Need To Do:

Mix equal parts of rubbing alcohol and vinegar and flush your ear with this solution to remove ear wax buildup.

#7 Glycerin:

Glycerin is completely safe and used in many ear wax drops use this ingredient to soften the wax and remove it smoothly.

What You Need To Do:

  • Pour few drops of glycerin in the affected ear using a dropper and let it remain for few minutes.
  • Then tilt your head to remove the melted ear wax from your ear and clean it thoroughly.

Note:

If you find problem with your ear wax them immediately reach out to your doctor for solution. Removing ear wax aggressively can sometimes lead to problems with your hearing, or ear canals that are itchy and painful which are more prone to infection.
